Globidens Tooth in Matrix

Globidens Tooth in Matrix

A well-preserved Globidens tooth partially rooted, embedded in its original matrix.

Globidens is a shell-crushing mosasaur from Morocco’s Late Cretaceous phosphate seas (Oulad Abdoun/Khouribga Basin). Built with stout jaws and globe-shaped teeth, it specialized in hard prey—clams, ammonites, nautiloids, turtles, and crustaceans—hunting over warm, shallow shelves rich in invertebrates. Fossils commonly found include isolated rounded teeth, jaw fragments, vertebrae, and occasional skull pieces, often recovered from phosphate mines. Rugged, durophagous, and coastal—perfectly adapted to a buffet of armored seafood.
